Employee Credentials and Training

REMSA’s Communications Specialists are trained initially and participate in ongoing continuing medical dispatch education to ensure they provide standardized, evidence-based, over-the-phone instructions, regardless of the medical emergency. This can include details on how to perform chest compressions, rescue breathing, hemorrhage control, as well as childbirth instructions, basic stroke assessments and scene safety/hazard information.

They have received training and are certified through the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch as Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatchers. In addition, Communications Specialists are required to have been medically trained as Emergency Medical Technicians or Paramedics prior to working in the communications center.

Communications Specialists continue their education by attending national conventions on Emergency Medical Dispatch Protocols throughout their careers and must maintain Continued Dispatch Education credits.

REMSA also maintains high standards by having a quality improvement department that performs monthly call audits to ensure that the Communication Specialists are compliant with IAED standards and are providing the high-level of patient care required to maintain industry-leading accreditation.
