Northern Nye County Healthcare Services

The Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA), a Reno-based 501(c)3 non-profit, and the Northern Nye County Hospital District have partnered to deliver critical healthcare services to the Northern Nye County area.

Nurse Health Line

Nurse Health Line provides Northern Nye County with a free, 24/7 call-in line staffed with registered nurses providing assessment, care recommendations and/or referrals to appropriate health care or community services.

Northern Nye County residents are encouraged to call the Nurse Health Line at 775-482-3377 for illnesses, injuries and symptoms that include a sore throat, minor burns, arm or leg pain/injury, cough/cold/flu symptoms, falls, vomiting, rash, low fever, minor pains, sprains/strains, earaches and nosebleeds, but should continue to call 9-1-1 for emergencies. The nurses can help callers by recommending a level of care including seeking immediate care through the 9-1-1 system, visiting an urgent care or clinic location or staying at home with self-care instructions.

Community Paramedics

Community Paramedics will be in Northern Nye County beginning in Spring 2018. More information about this program will be available soon.

Some patients may be treated by a Community Paramedic through the Nurse Health Line, a referral through the EMS system or from the Renown Health Clinic.  The Community Paramedics work with the Renown Health Clinic staff to enhance the level of care available locally for things like suturing minor wounds and splinting minor injuries, as well as providing Telehealthcare, a method to deliver medical, health and education information virtually. In addition, Community Paramedics can assist with chronic care medical services in patient’s homes to prevent unnecessary hospitalizations. Community Paramedics provide care to patients with a wide array of low acuity illnesses through specialized training and expanded protocols. They work in conjunction with the area’s volunteer ambulance services to provide Advanced Life Support services; including specialized medications and interventions.

Flight Plan Membership

Save on out-of-pocket costs and consider a $55 Flight Plan membership. REMSA’s critical care flight program, Care Flight, provides lifesaving medical evacuation to critically ill and seriously injured patients. REMSA maintains a fleet of accredited helicopters, an airplane and a ground ambulance to those requiring care at a trauma center or specialty hospital.
