Christine Barton Appointed as New Regional Instructor for the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch

Christine Barton

The Regional Emergency Medical Services Authority (REMSA) announces the appointment of Christine Barton as a regional instructor for International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED).

An international organization, IAED develops and maintains protocols and curriculum for safe, effective and consistent emergency dispatch services. IAED instructors train emergency dispatchers across the globe on these protocols to ensure the highest quality standards.

The selection process for instructors is demanding and candidates must complete rigorous certifications. Barton joins a very exclusive group of instructors with only 61 new instructors certified in 2017.  She currently teaches IAED classes in the Western States and will begin training courses across the United States and Canada in mid-2019.

“Christine’s recent selection as a regional instructor for IAED is a testament to her unyielding focus on patient care and extensive experience in emergency medical dispatch over the past two decades,” said Adam Heinz, Director of Clinical Communication, REMSA. “We are proud of Christine’s appointment, and to have her representing REMSA at a national level.”

Barton has been a trusted member of the REMSA team for nearly 20 years serving in a variety of roles. She joined REMSA as a paramedic in 2000 and currently serves as the Communications Manager where she is responsible for dispatch center operations. All 9-1-1 medical emergency calls for Washoe County are routed to the REMSA Communications Center, which manages more than 250,000 total incoming/outgoing calls each year. The REMSA Communications Center was the first Communications agency in Nevada to achieve IAED accreditation and has maintained this prestigious status since 2001.
